Cycle 1 Science & Technology:
Grade 7 & 8 Science is a 2 year cycle in which students will learn how to work in a laboratory setting learning how to use the various equipment to carry out experiments, such as environmental labs to determine the quality of soil and water or chemistry labs determining the pH levels of various household chemicals. Students will also be introduced to technological techniques, such as technical drawing, and then build their designs. Students will learn the fundamentals that they will carry with them into Cycle 2.
Cycle 2 Applied and General Science & Technology
Grade 9 and 10 offer two science pathways, Applied and General. Both pathways build on every student’s prior knowledge of science and technology.
Grade 9 Science & Technology
A large portion of the program is based on the Living World in which students learn about human anatomy and physiology. Throughout the program students will be introduced to new laboratory techniques related to the Living World. They will also be introduced to more chemistry and physics which is part of the Material World.
Grade 10 Science & Technology
This grade encompasses all of the sciences from environmental to physics. Once again building on the prior knowledge of science in Grade 9, students will have learned greater laboratory techniques in the previous grades as they will be performing more complex experiments that will result in the students critically thinking about their results.
Grade 11 – Chemistry & Physics
In Grade 11, the science becomes more specific. Student will generate a greater understanding of chemistry and physics. In chemistry, students learn more in depth of the why and how reactions occur and the theory behind it. They will also perform various experiments in the senior chemistry lab. In physics, students learn about optics and mechanics. These courses are to prepare students to go on to science in CEGEPT.
