Welcome to Riverdale!

Community Learning Center

The Riverdale CLC is an organization fostering life-long learning by actively participating in sustainable socio-economic/cultural/linguistic development.  In collaboration with Community partners, we strive to provide quality educational services, sports, leisure, and recreational activities responding to the diverse needs of the Community.

The mission of the Riverdale CLC is to bring together and promote the capacity of local, sustainable partnerships with community base organization already in existence. Consequently, this would create a closer more intimate connection between the school and the community in a complementary manner. Together the Riverdale CLC and its partners will provide services to enhance the well being of our students, their families and community.  Working with our partners will enable the CLC to create a milieu that fosters family and community engagement, youth development, sports, arts and a life-long learning community. Through a collaboration process, the CLC will engage our community to build multi -directional reciprocal learning relationships between students, teachers, parents and the community at large.

LITERACY UNLIMITED

Literacy Unlimited is a community resource dedicated to the advancement of literacy. We have been helping adults challenged with low literacy since 1981 and offer the following services:

One-on-one Tutoring: Free one-on-one tutoring for English-speaking adults who want to improve their basic reading, writing and math skills. Student goals may include employment, further education and/or increased independence. Tutoring is provided by trained volunteers and is available weekdays, evenings or weekends.

Oasis School Literacy Program: This program is a pull-out program during the school day where students are tutored on a one-on-one basis to improve their reading and writing skills. The support is tailored to meet individual student needs and interests. Poor readers are at significant risk for dropping out of high school. By helping them to grow as readers and writers, we hope to motivate these young adolescents to remain in school. Literacy Unlimited is able to provide this service thanks to a generous donation from Gildan Activewear.

Computer Skills Training: Computer literacy is fast emerging as a necessary skill in our society. We provide a Computer Skills Training Program as an additional service to adults improving their traditional literacy skills. Trained volunteers work one-on-one with adults struggling with literacy issues to learn basic computer skills. Literacy Unlimited is able to provide this service thanks to a generous donation from Freedom 55 Financial, a division of London Life Insurance Company.

We can be reached at either www.literacyunlimited.ca or at 514-694-0007.
