In October 1991, the parent communities of Riverdale, and our feeder schools, were surveyed at the request of our Orientation Committee as to their feelings about school uniforms. Effective August 1993, all students have been required to wear our school uniform. A committee of parents was set up to choose the best supplier with the best prices, while a committee of students was given the responsibility of choosing the uniform and the colours. They decided upon forest green and black as the basic colours of the uniform.
The following articles, purchased solely from our uniform supplier, make up our uniform:
Shirt
- White turtleneck with school logo
- White polo top (short sleeves, collar, 3 buttons) printed with school logo
- Green mock neck shirt printed with school logo
- Green/black long sleeved polo shirt printed with school logo
Cardigan
- Forest green with black trim with school logo to be worn over turtleneck or polo only
V-Neck Pullover
- Forest green, black trim with school logo to be worn over turtleneck or polo only
Sleeveless Pullover
- Forest green, black trim with school logo to be worn over turtleneck or polo only
Pants
- Black dress pants for boys and girls
Skirt
- Pleated Black Watch tartan (approx. knee length)
Cargo Shorts
- In season (determined by school administration) with school logo
Belts
- If worn, must be black or dark green
Socks
- Black, forest green or white
Panty Hose/Tights
- Black, forest green or skin tone (no leggings)
Shoes
- Black shoes only
- Solid black shoes, sole included (no stripes, logos, etc.)
- Shoes must be maintained presentable at all times
- Slippers, clogs, boots, sandals, boots, trendy shoes not permitted.
Seasonal Wear
- Cargo shorts with school logo
- Sandals, black, good quality (no flip-flops or beach sandals)
Assorted
- T-shirts worn under tops must be plain white with no print, design or logo and should not be visible beyond the shirt length worn.
- Any clothing not considered school appropriate by staff or school administration will not be tolerated.
- Fad hair colouring, facial piercing and excessive jewelry are not in keeping with school uniform policy and, therefore, may be dealt with by administration.
